Loma Alta ~6.3? miles
May 10th, 2009
104 Finishers: 72 men, 32 women
While maybe not as prominent a Marin peak as a Tamalpais or a Burdell,
Loma Alta nonetheless presents a pretty good climb. TCRS has visited its
hillsides a few times over the years, and our May edition was introduced
to a new route to the top, courtesy of Steve Shapiro. We were graced
with a lovely spring morning, a bit warm but not oppressive, and the
vistas from the ridgetops were magnificent. Steve's blueprint did
include a lengthy stretch of extreme rise, but after all, we were
climbing Loma Alta, and our descent was more directly down the main fire
road. Mark McManus put a pretty good thumping on a very strong field,
and Liz Shortino continued her torrid season with a big win. It was
again one of those mornings when many lingered long after the run to
savor our efforts and our special community, and to consider that, just
like that, the 2009 season is already half-over
