Mark McManus' massive margin of victory over a quality field was certainly one of the highlights of the day. The duel which resulted in Liz Shortino's comparatively miniscule margin of victory over Karen Steele was another of those highlights. The May TCRS at Northridge in Mill Valley was billed as a Dipsea tune-up, and for toughness and authenticity, it definitely qualified. A mercifully cool morning allowed the TCRS faithful to conclude the first half of the 2008 season on a strong note, but it was a tough, tough course. The third "Kids' Race" of the year was another highlight, with the opening stretch of this course being a natural for the youngsters to traverse shortly after the Big Kids answered their starting commands. And one might have to include the presence of our very own Porta-Potty for the morning's use as a rare TCRS highlight. The Team -- Lillie, Heidi, Jay, Jen, Anitra, Vanessa, Tom, Frank, and all of the Kids Race volunteers -- performed with their usual precision. Club President Brad O'Brien played to the female vote with Mother's Day flowers for all qualifiers, and the well-received gesture exemplified the spirit of the morning. - Jim Myers
