A small contingent of Tamalpa Runners ventured south to Los Gatos on Sunday, 6/23/19, to run the very
fast One Mile Bang Road Race. Eight Tamalpa men ran and we were able to score what appears to be
Team wins for the Super Senior (M60-69) and Veteran (M70-79) Men’s Teams. We had two Tamalpa Senior
Women with Beth Freedman and Mary Vidovich, but Mary’s 12-year-old daughter Janie Marie could not be
scored on a Women’s Senior Team, and we were one F 50+ Runner short of scoring a team. The fastest
Tamalpa Finisher was 46-year-old Markelle Taylor who went out with a goal of breaking 5 minutes in the
Mile and he ran well under 5 minutes with his 4:50.8 finish. Dan Lee another M40+ Tamalpan ran a
strong 5:15.5 Mile, but we were three M40-49 Runners short of being able to score a Masters Men’s
Team. Beth Freedman (F50-59), Don Porteous (M70-79) and Elmo Shropshire (M80+) all took first place
in their respective Age Group, and Elmo set a new course record for the M80+ Age Group with a fast 7:41.2.
Len Goldman was the second M70-79 finisher and Keith Duncan was the first 65+ finisher. It was a good
Day for Tamalpa. If you want to run a fast Mile, put the One Mile Bang on your 2020 race Schedule!
The next PAUSATF Road Race is the Morgan Hill Freedom Fest 5K on the 4th of July. Hopefully we will
be able to score some Tamalpa Teams at this fast road race!
