The Tamalpa Runners had 11 runners compete in the first Cross Country Race of 2018, the
UC Santa Cruz XC Challenge. Jose Lopez was the first Tamalpa Male finisher in 27:14 for the
4 Mile Course. Keith Duncan was next in 28:36 as he led a Super Senior Team that included
Roberto Donaire and Peter O’Reilly, running his first race for Tamalpa as a 60 year old, and it
appears as the Tamalpa Super Seniors took second place in the M60-69 Age Group to the
RCR. Don Porteous, the first M70-79 finisher, teamed with Len Goldman and Gene French
to easily win the M70-79 Age Group Competition. Hans Schmid, Elmo Shropshire, the first
M80+ finisher and Bill Dodson will be dropped down to team with Jose Lopez for a scoring
Men’s Masters Team. Mary Vidovich was the lone Tamalpa Woman finisher, so we were
unable to score any Tamalpa Women’s Team in the race.
The next Cross Country Race will be the 26th Annual Phil Widener Empire Open next Saturday, August 25, 2018.
